M-Phazes…good gracious. One of my favorite producers out there right now. Hailing out of Aussie. I can’t say enough about how amazing his beats are. I got this one from a showcase he was doing…I just named it “Epic Beat”. I feel like this could be a beat James Bond would dig.

My favorite ska band of all time, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, just released their long awaited album “Pin Points and Gin Joints”. I’ve been waiting for this for a long time because life has been pretty rough the past few months and ska music has always been something that as helped me feel better. This album worked. After listening through the album a few times you can tell the band has matured a lot since the last time they played together. Of course, this is true of any band who takes a hiatus for many years. The songs are not as punchy and hard as most of the older stuff. To me it really sounds like a album you listen to when you are reminiscing about better days. The track “Wasted Summer” hits home for me as its about a guy who moves from Boston to NYC to make it big. Lines like “How do you like it in New York? How’s every last damn little thing?” and “How is your head when you go to bed at night? Does your money help you sleep? And in my mind it might not be enough…just ask the company you keep.” It makes me miss Boston. “I Wrote It” and “Your Life” are my other two favorite tracks. I might live in New York now but the fact remains that the Bosstones still are one of my favorite bands of all time and this album does not disappoint. I got it on vinyl…go out and buy it.

It was 2002 when I saw Orbital live at the Roseland Theater in NYC. It was for the CMJ Music Festival and I was covering it for my radio station. The 4 days were the craziest of my life and this was one of the high points of…well, ever. When they dropped this track the entire place went insane and you could feel the energy like nothing else. It was one of those moments that people should experience once in their lifetime. The entire space was in sync.
Then it hit….the break. “Holy shit”, I thought. “This is a remix”. For those that have not heard this yet I won’t give it away…but it floored everyone in the place. The way everything worked together…backwards and forwards. This was one of the moments that made me want to become a DJ. It wasn’t until later I found a live recording of the insane remix I heard that night. It brings back so many memories.
For those who are unaware I have both the original and the live remix posted below. I highly suggest you check them out.

I’m at work and my bro Birk came up to my desk and said, “you got to hear this” and gave me this mix cd called, “Wine Coolers” by Bennett 4 Senate. The cover was this classic 70’s living room with this white leather couch and furry carpet. It was the perfect cover for this album. All these soulful sexy (and hilarious) love songs. My favorites being Don’t Disturb This Groove, by The System and the closing track, Force M.D.s – Love Is A House. It just got stuck in my head all day long. The perfect album for those late nights with your special lady friend. Click the link to dl the full mix.
Bennett 4 Senate – Wine Coolers
I also found this 12 inch rare dub version that I need to get so I can speed it up and drop some other vocals on this beat. Its 80s bananas.
